Privacy Policy

Last updated · June 2, 2026

Scan ("Scan", "we", "us") operates the Scan skin-intelligence platform (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Photos you upload

When you run a pet wellness scan you provide one or more photographs of your dog. These images are transmitted over TLS, processed by our vision pipeline, and stored in an access-controlled object store encrypted at rest (AES-256). Images are retained as part of our anonymized canine wellness database.

1.2 Self-reported inputs

You may provide age, sex, breed, climate, diet, exercise, hydration, and general wellness history. These inputs are used to calibrate your analysis and contribute to our aggregated, anonymized research dataset.

1.3 Account & billing data

If you create an account or make a purchase we collect your email address and a payment token from our PCI-compliant processor. We never receive or store full card numbers.

1.4 Technical data

We collect device type, browser, IP address (truncated after 30 days), and aggregated usage events to operate and secure the Service.

2. How we use your information

  • To generate your wellness assessment, biological-age estimate and Scan protocol.
  • To deliver your results, receipts, and product updates you have opted into.
  • To build and improve the world's largest anonymized canine wellness database, advancing preventative veterinary science.
  • To detect fraud, abuse and to keep the Service secure.
  • To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

3. Anonymized data & research use

All photos and associated wellness data are de-identified before being added to our research database. This means any personally identifying information — including your name, email, location data, and your pet's identifying features — is removed or obfuscated. What remains is the underlying visual and statistical wellness data, which cannot be traced back to you or your pet.

This anonymized dataset is used to train and improve our models, identify population-level health trends, and contribute to peer-reviewed veterinary research. Because the data is anonymized, it is not subject to individual deletion requests under standard data-protection frameworks.

4. What we never do

  • We never sell, rent, or trade your personal data or identifiable imagery.
  • We never share identifiable photos with third-party advertisers or data brokers.
  • We never publish identifiable imagery without explicit, written, revocable consent.
  • We never re-identify anonymized data or attempt to link it back to individual users.

5. Retention

Photographs and wellness data are retained indefinitely as part of our anonymized research database. Derived numerical features (vector scores, biological-age estimate) are retained against your account so you can track progress. Account and billing data is retained for as long as your account is active and for a period afterward as required by law.

If you wish to close your account and delete your personal information, contact us at support@dialavet.com.au. Note that while we will remove your account and identifiable data, anonymized data already incorporated into our research database cannot be extracted or deleted.

6. Sub-processors

We use a small number of vetted sub-processors strictly to deliver the Service: cloud hosting (AWS, eu-west-1), error monitoring (Sentry), email delivery (Postmark), and payment processing (Stripe). All sub-processors are bound by Data Processing Agreements.

7. Your rights

If you are in the EEA, UK, California or another jurisdiction with comparable laws, you have the right to access, correct, port, restrict, or delete your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email support@dialavet.com.au. We respond within 30 days.

8. International transfers

Where data is transferred outside your region of residence we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards approved by competent regulators.

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified by email and posted here with a revised "Last updated" date.
